Kharkhorin is a small town in Mongolia. It is located in Ovorkhangai province on the Silk Road. The city is very old and it was established in the year 1235. It was the son of Genghis Khan who established the city. His name was Ogoodei. Kharkhorin was the capital city until there was another King named as Khubilai Khan. This king established the new capital in Beijing. This city in English is called the Karakoram. Since it was a capital city, it was a political, administrator economic and religious center. Some important features
There is a wall that surrounds the city. This wall is of 400 meters square. The city earlier had four stone turtles. There was a lot of respect to these turtles. These turtles were believed to be the symbols of many good qualities. These qualities were longevity, independence, and solidarity. The total was considered to be an animal of the spirit of water. It means that they thought the element of water which is very necessary for life has a spirit that is represented by a turtle. It was believed that water could be controlled with the help of the turtle. Therefore these totals were placed and it was believed that the floods will remain away from the city because of these turtles. Only two turtles are remaining after the attack of Ming troops in the year 1380. The two turtles are made up of granite.
The city after the attack
When in the year 1380, Ming troops attacked and destroyed many precious things in the city. The remains include the base of a palace, two granite turtles out of 4, some stone lions, two columns and a few traces of irrigation channel. The government takes special care of this city now. Everything over here has been protected very nicely since 1961. There was a very important discovery of 230 coins by the archaeologists in the ruins of the city. These 230 coins are from 10 different countries.

It was a very different experience of visiting this city of Karakoram. Many new things were learned by us and I heartily wish to visit the place again. The arrangements also were nice to make us pretty comfortable. I took my family with me and it was a great experience to visit this city and we all would love to come here again and have more fun.
